| Effect | The goddess jealously guards the cycle of life and death, forbidding the return of souls that have passed except in urgent need. This spell allows the caster to draw a specific soul into a preserved or fresh corpse. The soul remembers their past, although less clearly the longer they have been dead, and retain skills they knew in life. Resurrection is never performed without careful consideration. The channeler performing the ritual is interceding directly with the Goddess of Death, negotiating the return of one of her souls to the mortal world. This negotiation always requires an act of service for the Goddess by those interceding for the soul's return. The soul must be willing and cannot be compelled to return against its desires. The ritual itself requires part of the caster's soul in the form of expending permanent mana to perform. The availability and willingness of a Su-Lan priest who can perform this miracle should be tightly regulated by the Storyteller. This power gives an opportunity for high rank players to return a beloved character to life but should come with its own story arc and never treated as commonplace or ordinary. The mana cost is the base-stakes to intercede with the goddess and NOT an assurance the spell will be successful. Su-Lan will require the trade of something incredibly valuable, like a soul in exchange or a quest that meets her needs on the mortal world. These bargains are out of reach for characters of low experience and are generally intended for characters of Campaign Rank 4 or higher. |
