Anamnestism (The Forgetting)

Much can be written about The Forgetting, clinically known among the faerie as Anamnestism. This is the process that faeries experience as they age, where the millennia of memories they have accumulated begin to overwrite each other, causing a form of immortal dementia.

Faerie have spent tens of thousands of years trying to slow this process, or reverse it, with little success. The greatest among them who fail to Ascend, will fall to it eventually. Anamnestism will often cause the affected faerie to revert to a childlike view, rediscovering things they were once masters of, and acting increasingly erratic as their memories conflict. Among those who fought in the darkest days of the Elari War, the trauma of the war has made the symptoms of Anamnestism even worse. Many of these unfortunate souls live in a constant state of paranoia, never able to accept that the war is over, or forget the terrible acts they witnessed.

Statistically the effects of Anamnestism is demonstrated by a reduction in experience. An ancient near-Ascendant from the time of the Elari War, may have been reduced to the functional equivalent of a character with zero experience. This provides opportunities for players to explore not only child faerie, but ancient wizened faeries who have forgotten millenia of knowledge and power.
