The Ride Skill allows a character the ability to ride a tame creature of at least 2 size classes larger than herself (e.g. a horse). Doing such may require specialized equipment, such as a saddle and bridle.

The specific animal must be approved by the Storyteller. E.g. a Medium creature such as a human or elf could ride a horse, however a troll could not. Small animals such as dogs could be ridden by a faerie.


Performing difficult actions while astride, such as attacking or casting spells, requires additional successes. During combat, each maneuver performed while mounted requires a separate Ride check. Directing a mount to move during combat requires a Move Action unless the rider is also trained in [[Mounted Combat]]. If the mount takes damage, an additional Ride check is required to control the animal. A failure may result in the mount fleeing in an unpredictable direction, while a critical failure would result in throwing the rider.
