If a shaman gains the allegiance or friendship of a local spirit, she may pursue the creation of a Covenant with it. A Covenant is an agreement promising enduring support (whether this be in the form of protection or otherwise) in exchange for occasional assistance from the spirit in question. With an agreement struck, the shaman and allied spirit must spend at least an hour working together to construct a permanent shrine, using durable local materials as well as 50g worth of supplies. Once established, the shaman may freely call upon the spirit by completing a one-minute ritual and providing a previously agreed-upon offering to the shrine. When the ritual is complete, the spirit of the shrine immediately appears before the shaman, and the shaman becomes Attuned indefinitely without requiring a Casting roll. The spirit of a shrine may be summoned by anyone who brings the correct offering, but only earth shaman who have a Covenant with the spirit in question may become Attuned.

Effect With willing assistance from local spirits, Earth Shaman and their bound spirit can imbue the shaman with a deep connection to nature, gaining bonuses in areas they are attuned to.

During a ten-minute ritual, the shaman erects a small, temporary shrine to local spirits and attempts a Casting roll. A total rank of spirits equal to the number of successes rolled are drawn to the shrine; they are not compelled to respond to the shaman, but hear the call and may choose to investigate. This may be many weak spirits, or a singular powerful one per the Storyteller.

If the shaman wishes to Attune to the area she may do so with the assistance of her earth spirit and agreement of a local spirit, gaining +2 enhancement bonus to the casters choice of Survival Skill, Gather Information Skill, Handle Animal Skill, or Knowledge Skill(Nature) for a number of days equal to the initial Casting roll. If no local spirits are able or willing to respond to the call (or to assist with attunement), the shaman cannot become Attuned to the area.

At Rank 1, the shaman may only be Attuned to 1 area at a time; if she Attunes to a second area, the initial attunement is broken but may be renewed by calling a spirit at a previously-built shrine. Temporary shrines last for 1 week before falling part, if left unattended. Permanent shrines can last for months to years, depending on the materials, and may be willingly maintained by the spirit as long as the Covenant is not broken.
